Fitted furniture and joinery
Norwich
Norwich rooms are rarely a blank box. Fitted furniture has to follow the house.
Georgian townhouses, Victorian terraces and later city houses share a practical problem: chimney breasts, sash reveals and alcoves that a standard wardrobe never quite fills. R.E. Woods & Son makes fitted furniture, wardrobes and freestanding pieces for those rooms, and the joinery that belongs with them: doors, stairs and panelling made to the existing lines.
The workshop is at Thuxton, about 12 miles west of Norwich. Drawings are agreed first, the piece is made in the workshop, and it is fitted in the house. A city terrace and a house on the western edge of Norwich are the same sort of journey from Thuxton.
The portfolio includes a Georgian townhouse kitchen in Norwich. Kitchen design and fitting are not handled on this site.
Pieces are made at the family workshop and fitted in the house. The sequence is on the process page. Timber on the bench is the European oak, walnut and painted hardwood already described on the services page.
Photographs from the workshop
Captions say when a photograph belongs to a named commission. Otherwise it is an example of the work, not a claim about a house in Norwich.

Fitted wardrobes. This photograph is workshop work, not a Norwich address.

Library shelving made to a wall, the sort of piece a Norwich study often needs.

A timber staircase from the joinery workshop. It is not labelled as a Norwich stair.
