Fitted furniture and joinery

North Norfolk

North Norfolk is flint, brick and pantile, from Holt out to the Burnhams and Wells.

The coast and the towns just inland share older houses: flint cottages, Georgian fronts, barn conversions and estate cottages. Fitted furniture and joinery for those buildings is made at Thuxton, in mid-Norfolk, and brought north. The workshop is not on the coast.

Two commissions on this coast are named in the portfolio: heritage sash windows in Holt, and oak library storage in Burnham Market. Wells-next-the-Sea and Blakeney are part of the same coast. The portfolio does not name a furniture or joinery job in either. Blakeney’s published piece is a farmhouse scullery, which is a kitchen.

Photographs that are not those two commissions are workshop examples. Captions say so. A barn conversion and a flint cottage need different furniture, and the way to start is a visit, not a guess from a photograph.

Pieces are made at the family workshop and fitted in the house. The sequence is on the process page. Timber on the bench is the European oak, walnut and painted hardwood already described on the services page.

Photographs from the workshop

Captions say when a photograph belongs to a named commission. Otherwise it is an example of the work, not a claim about a house in North Norfolk.
